Jurgen Klopp says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed England's top flight under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. The team has suffered four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
